Story

https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/archiebrendan Our aim is to raise as much money as we can in Archie's memory to help support the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at St Mary's Hospital in Manchester. Without them we would not have got the 5 days we did with our beautiful boy. We want Archie's life to leave a little legacy of his own, to people that didn't know him. At the beginning of December I was 8 months pregnant, my pregnancy had been completely straightforward and then everything changed. We were told that Archie had a stomach obstruction and would need an operation at birth. After many tests/appointments we received the life changing news that Archie also had a chromosome problem that was so rare, there are almost no medical texts that could help the doctors to tell us the outcome for Archie after birth. One thing they did know was that there was an extremely high chance it could effect his lungs. We attended the hospital every 2 days throughout December to monitor Archie and myself as the condition came with a very high risk of premature labour and birth complications. The doctors expected me to go into labour at 32-34 weeks pregnant however our little man held on until 37 weeks. My waters broke around 3pm on Monday 11th Jan and our perfect boy Archie Brendan Shryane made a loud entrance to the world via emergency C-Section at 1am on Tuesday 12th Jan. Sharing a birthday with his Daddy! Archie was taken to the NICU unit straight from theatre where he was supported slightly with his breathing. By the time I was able to go and meet Archie he was already on a higher level of breathing support. The next 4 days were so difficult, some days he looked to be improving and some days were very scary. By Friday we were told that Archie was too poorly to have his stomach operation and his breathing support needed to be increased to the highest level. Our world stopped when doctors told us there was nothing more they could do for Archie and our brave boy passed away in our arms just after midnight on the 16th.
